Freedom Run Winery 2015 "Blood Moon" Chardonnay

88 points

100% Chardonnay growing in the Nana Jean Vineyard behind the winery. Silt-loam over limestone soils with 10% slope down toward Lake Ontario. Fermented in two new French oak barrels and remained in oak until March 2016. Stored in stainless until bottling in September 2016.

Flinty nose with layers of lightly toasted marshmallows and a beam of pure, ripe pear fruit. Medium bodied and deftly balanced, the palate shows nice pear and apple fruit qualities accented by similar subtle toated marshmallow flavors. Juicy acidity slices through a nice bit of concentration on the mid-palate, stretching out the finish.
