Rosemont of Virginia NV Virginia Red (Edition 4)

87 points

Up and down the East Coast, you can find some really well-priced multi-vintage red blends -- this one is even sub-$20.

There's a bit of grilled mushroom on a nose dominated by right red cherry and strawberry fruit. You'll find more cherry and strawberry fruit on a juicy palate, but also hints of fig and dried blueberry and a delicious savory edge. Lighter in body, it depends on acidity rather than tannin for structure, though there is a little red apple skin tannin on the finish. Nice value that is well suited to casual outdoor gatherings.
