Wolffer Estate 2017 Chardonnay

87 points

Well-priced and ideally suited to the changing seasons, this 100% chardonnay has aromas that start off with ripe, juicy pear and peach but also feature notes of spicy lees and pineapple.

Medium bodied, the palate offers fresh fruit qualities — more pear and peaches, but also yellow apple — with a gently creamy mid-palate and a nice bit of well-integrated acidity for freshness. Balanced and elegant, this is the kind of chardonnay winemaker Roman Roth is known for making year in and year out. As it warms to room temperature, there is an earthy note on the end of the finish that is somewhat distracting. Don't drink it ice cold, but keep it cool.
