Hermann J. Wiemer 2016 Josef Vineyard Riesling

92 points

A beautiful example of lower-alcohol (9.5% abv) riesling from the Finger Lakes.

Complex on the nose, it begins with apple blossoms and fresh-cut peaches before showing notes of citrus zest and lemongrass.

Despite the lower alcohol level, the palate is mouth-filling in terms of flavor. Peach and pineapple qualities are made more complex by floral and citrus overtones as well as an intriguing caramelized sugar note. Decidedly sweet, it is still fresh and nimble on the palate thanks to deftly integrated acidity that also lengthens the finish beautifully.
