Fossenvue Winery 2018 “Eighteen Forty-Eight” Diamond Pètillant-Naturel

Fossenvue Winery 2018 "Eighteen Forty-Eight" Diamond Pètillant-Naturel

87 points

Diamond, a cross of the well-known native grape variety Concord and lessser-known hybrid Iona, is perhaps surprisingly good as a pet-nat. The nose is intensely grape-y with a distinct aroma of green apply Jolly Rancher as well and subtle floral notes.

Light-bodied and frothy, there is some definite sweetness here to go with more green apple candy and green grape qualities. The finish is off-dry with sweet pineapple and citrus and just a bit more flowers. It's not complex at all, but it's quite tasty.

Note: The wine is named Eighteen Forty-Eight because "In Eighteen Forty-Eight, a convention was held in Seneca Falls, NY that launched the women’s suffrage movement. Here is where the Declaration of Sentiments was created, claiming that all men and women were created equal."
