Hickory Hollow Wine Cellars Cuvee X

It’s been some time since I’ve tasted one of winemaker Nathan Kendall’s wines when I didn’t think it was delicious – often in a distinctive or unique way.

This blend of 52% riesling and 48% cayuga white did not end that streak.

Sweet citrus – lemon-lime mostly – dominates the nose along with some green apple, a subtle autolytic note, and a minerally vein.

Bone-dry and uber-fresh, the palate is all green apple and mixed citrus and rainwater minerality. The finish is long and zesty with hints of apple skin and biscuit.

Is it your classic chardonnay or pinot-based sparkling wine? Absolutely not. Is it more delicious than some of those classic wines? It absolutely is. And it’s a tremendous value at $20 for methode champenoise sparkling wine.
