As you may have read in Newsday or on northerforker.com (where I’m a contributor), I’m a small part of what George Eldi is doing at his new shop Wines by Nature in Wading River, New York. I’m the New York (and I hope, eventually, East Coast) buyer for the shop and I’m also going to be holding monthly tastings in the shop.
Today, I’m excited to announce the first one will take place on Friday, August 4 at 6 p.m. and we’ll be tasting six Long Island whites made from aromatic varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Albarino and Chenin Blanc (as well as some blends). If you know the region’s wines at all, you can guess what at least a couple of the wines are — but I’m not going to list them. Join us and find out.
I know that a lot of you have been wanting to attend one of my tastings at Roanoke Vineyards (which will continue, by the way) but haven’t been able to because they sell out so quickly. I’m hopeful that these will sell out too — but perhaps a bit more gradual pace.
We’ll also have cheese from nearby Cheese & Spice Market to accompany the wines.
I’m curious to see what direction these tastings going in — but my goal is always for them to be informative, but not too serious. Wine should be fun and one of my goals is to keep it that way.
Seating is limited and reservations are required. Contact the shop at 631-886-2800. $30 per person.
