This 2017 Estate Selection Cabernet Franc is the first-ever cabernet franc bottling from Lenz – and what a way for winemaker Thomas Spotteck (who took over head winemaking duties from long-time winemaker Eric Fry in 2016) to introduce a new wine to the portfolio.
The nose oozes with dark berry fruit – blackberries and black cherries with just a little cassis – with a subtle earthiness and notes of leaf tobacco and dried herbs.
Ripe and rich, the palate shows nice concentration without turning jammy or heavy. The fruit here is fresh and dark (just like the nose) with subtle savory and summery herbal qualities on the periphery. Soft, approachable tannins join with a fresh bit of acidity to give this wine structure and a nice mouthfeel.
