There’s still not a lot of rkatsiteli planted in the East, but what is in the ground is leading to some terrifically fresh, vibrant wines – like this one from Blenheim Vineyards and winemaker Kirsty Harmon.
There’s so much to like on the nose here: ripe peach and citrus with pretty floral notes and a subtle lemongrass one too. Medium-bodied and just a little oily on the mid-palate, it delivers lots of apricot and tropical fruit flavors with a gently pithy bitterness that combines with fresh acidity to make this an appetite-whetting pour with a variety of foods. As it warms just a bit, some citrus and lemongrass qualities emerge at the end of a medium finish.
It packs a lot of flavor and character for less than $20.
