If you love cabernet franc – and I mean really love cabernet franc, not over-wrought, over-oaked wannabe cabernet sauvignon – you need to know Early Mountain Vineyards. Working with fruit from a variety of vineyards and terroirs, winemaker Ben Jordan is making some of the most distinctive and downright delicious cabernet franc in the East… or really anywhere in North America.
This is a riper, slightly bigger style (14.1%) and it shows booth on the nose and palate. Blackberry and blueberry fruit and compote aromas are accented by notes of fennel frond, coffee, vanilla, and sandalwood.
Soft but balanced, the palate delivers more of those black-and-blue fruits with complex layers of savory herbs, peppery spice, and coffee bean. The finish is long and elegant.
